WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
We arranged our trip so we could see the sunset on the Edge. Mother Nature, sadly, had other ideas for us.
In early June, Tim and I travelled to Manhattan. Unusual temperatures prevailed, and sporadic thunderstorms were expected to develop in the afternoon and evening.
to 6:00 pm, we arrived to The Edge. The staff informed us that the sky deck was closed due to the weather forecast before we entered. Although there was no rain or thunder in Manhattan, a nearby thunderstorm (in New Jersey) was close enough that the outside sky deck had to be shut down for safety. The outdoor observation deck might be closed for the rest of the day, but we could still visit the indoor observation decks.
The staff gave us the option of rescheduling our visit for the following day in addition to refunding our tickets.
We continued with our original plan, taking a chance, and crossing our fingers that the skies would clear and the sky deck would reopen.
There weren’t many people at the Edge because most individuals chose to take their refunds. A service member informed us that the sky deck will reopen once the little cell of rain and lightning in New Jersey had gone 11 miles away from Manhattan.
While we waited, we watched a marriage proposal and drank pricey wine and bourbon.

However, those looking for a bigger adrenaline rush can practically scale the outside of the skyscraper to get much higher.
City Climb
Edge introduced City Climb in November 2021 as a chance for daredevils to climb to a higher elevation on the glass skyscraper. It is regarded as the Earth’s tallest open-air building. After donning blue jumpsuits, going through a series of safety briefings and harness inspections, and ascending a 45-degree stairway, participants can lean out over the skyscraper and wave to onlookers on the observation deck below.
It takes around two hours to complete the entire experience, including donning your costume and harness, ascending the stairs, and learning to let go and lean back towards Manhattan. While it isn’t a cheap afternoon activity, it does provide you the opportunity to claim victory over the city’s most daring observation deck experience.
What is the most costly segment of New York?
Hudson Yards is the most costly, with a typical home costing $7.5m. As per The New York Times, the region has gone through a $25b change, working over the West Side rail yard. It is currently home to some of New York’s best prime private and business improvements.
Most recently, in January of this year, Edge unveiled a seasonal, 1,024 square foot ice skating rink that is the highest in New York City, keeping with the observation deck’s penchant for lofty claims. From now until March 14 you may toe-loop over the ice while listening to live DJs playing tunes on Thursday and Friday nights. You can also skate to views of the skyline.
Hours and admission
If you reserve a date and time for your visit online, general entry for adults at Edge begins at $40, while junior and senior tickets begin at $35 and $38 respectively.
Flex Passes offer access to the Edge at any time, but they still require a reservation for a specified day. For the flexibility, every adult, child, and senior will need to set up an extra $20 per person.
Participants must be at least 13 years old and pay $185 for admission to City Climb. Minors must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old. Tickets for City ascent give you access to Edge as well as a medal (for bragging rights, of course) and a film of your ascent.
The basic entrance to Edge ($50 for adults, which includes 30 minutes on the rink and skate rentals) charges an extra $10 for guests who want to skate before (or after) taking in the view.

Even while Edge keeps raising the bar, it’s no longer the city’s newest observation tower. No, that honor belongs to Summit, which began operations in October 2021 in Midtown, above Grand Central.
